Dedication
The Buchtel CLC dedication took place on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at 6 p.m. Students began attending classes in the new building on Wednesday, Aigist 29, 2012.
Buchtel's Master Facility Plan
Design details for the new Buchtel/Perkins CLC:
- Fresh, contemporary design that will be an asset and focal point of the community
- Strong separation of Perkins and Buchtel facilities with distinct entries and state-of-the-art security and monitoring systems
- Gymnasiums, auditorium, Griff Inn and other spaces suitable for community use and conveniently located for after-hours community use
- Additional space provided for targeted learning support such as Project GRAD and pastoral counseling
- State-of-the-art classroom technology
- Enhanced career tech instructional spaces
- Flexible classroom and lab designs to respond to changing educational needs
- Computer labs in both schools
- Three gymnasiums and eight locker rooms
Architects
All designs are the work of an
architectural firm from one of six firms, which comprise the Akron
Architectural Group. AAG architects work with Akron Public Schools
architects on each site. The architectural firm designing the Buchtel/Perkins
Community Learning Center is the GPD Group (John Peterson, project
architect). Fred Herr is the
Akron Public Schools liaison.
