East's Master Facility Plan
East was renovated and converted into a middle (East CLC 7-8 Campus)
and high (East CLC 9-12 Campus) school that house students in grades 7-12.
East students relocated to the old Central-Hower High School during
renovations. Goodyear students stayed in their current building
until the new school was completed.
The new East CLC is the first high school to be completed as part of the Akron Community Learning Centers project. The building boasts a renovated facility with four additions. The building has a formal entrance facing Brittain Road with teacher parking in front and a main entry for staff and students. The renovation and additions total over 200,000 square feet. The facility includes classrooms on the first and second floors of the main building plus a remodeled three-story addition that includes Akron Public Schools career education programs. The additions include student dining with seating for 450 students, a science wing, a school administration office complex and a middle school addition facing Brittain Road that will be completed in 2011. The major renovations include the auditorium, main and practice gyms, media centers, and career education building. The student-designed high school logo is proudly displayed on the gymnasium floor.
Architects
All designs are the work of an
architectural firm from one of six firms, which comprise the Akron
Architectural Group. AAG architects work with Akron Public Schools
architects on each site. The architectural firm designing the
East/Goodyear Community Learning Center was GPD Group (Rodwell King, project
architect). Gerald Taylor was the
Akron Public Schools liaison.
