Dedication The Barber CLC dedication took place on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at 5 p.m. Students began attending classes in the new building on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Barber's Master Facility Plan A new school was built on the current site. There was not
room to build the new school while the existing school stood, so it
was demolished. The old Mason Elementary School building housed
students until the new school was built.
Barber CLC provides students, staff and community members with the latest in learning technology. Each classroom contains a new projector which allows teachers to connect to the Internet, play audio and display video on a large screen. Other features include better lighting; up-to-date heating, ventilation and AC; and improved, safer and better-equipped kitchen equipment. The school also boasts enhanced security. Exterior doors are always locked while school is in session. A controlled entry allows staff to monitor school visitors.
Architects All designs are
the work of an architectural firm from one of six firms, which
comprise the Akron Architectural Group. AAG architects work with
Akron Public Schools architects on each site. The architectural firm designing the
Barber Community Learning Center was Moody Nolan Inc. (Lester
Cumberlander, project architect). Gary Reyna was
the Akron Public Schools liaison.
