Sam Salem's Master Facility Plan
The new Sam Salem Community Learning Center sits on 5.7 acres
to the south of the existing school, which allowed for the existing
school to remain open throughout the construction process. The CLC
is constructed of field-red concrete masonry units with dark
red and buff accent bands of concrete masonry units. The two-story
educational wing located close to Waterloo Road has pitched
roofs with 21 classrooms, the art room and the LRC. The other wing of the
building houses the office suite, gym, cafeteria and music rooms. The
gym and cafeteria can be enlarged with a movable partition that
allows for a meeting area with a stage at the end. This wing is
visible from 26th Street. In the center of the two wings is the main
entrance, which is a two-story glass atrium with a pitched
roof. A
parking lot will be constructed where the old building is located.
The parking lot and drop-off area are located west of
the building and accessible from 26th Street. This will direct most
of the vehicle and bus traffic to the north side of the building and
separate it from the playground, located to the south of the
building.
Architects
All designs are the work of an
architectural firm from one of six firms, which comprise the Akron
Architectural Group. AAG architects work with Akron Public Schools
architects on each site. The architectural firm that designedthe Sam
Salem Community Learning Center was TC Architects. Fred Herr was the
Akron Public Schools liaison.
